LIVE REVIEWS
“..an evening of hypnotic, other-worldly theatre.. stunning - I left feeling mystified...this was no doubt a striking, collaborative piece.
In the words of the Joy Collective: you will want to have been there.”

“Musical duo Drunk With Joy brings to our attention a new and intriguing form of exhibition…they present us with a showcase
style platform for a multitude of art forms, fusing them all alongside one another, which in turn makes us wonder where the
boundaries between visual and performance art actually lie, or whether there really needs be such a tangible distinction?”
Harriet Anscombe, Performance Ambassador (Exeter University)
“Joy Collective live, featuring the Exeter based artist/music duo Drunk With Joy, exhibited artists, dancers and musicians in such a
way that they each complemented one another - all the senses were simultaneously enflamed; still images, short films, live
dance on stage and an occasional ghostly mirroring of the latter projected onto a screen above Oshin’s microphone stand.
The visual artists’ work evoked emotion in a way I’ve come to expect it would in a gallery; but within the Exeter Phoenix
auditorium, each image managed to envelop the audience, the music adding explanations and the opportunity for a deeper
reading to what a static art exhibition may offer. A veritable ‘you had to be there’ event.”

“I’ve just got back from seeing The Joy Collective and while I’m still spirited away I wanted to pen a few lines. Mila Oshin was incandescent on the stage tonight. She held the auditorium. My shoulders were tensed for an hour. You rarely expect to see someone as entrancing as this in real life, it’s something reserved for watching on Bond movies! The performances, artwork and visual interpretations absolutely worked. The choreographers were my favourite. The trumpet was very very beautiful. I liked to see Kris Jager play guitar and I’m imagining that he directed the show from that laptop, utterly seamlessly.”

“I came here because I knew one of the visual artist’s work and assumed I would find out about a few more interesting visual artists from the region... I had never seen contemporary dance live before, but was really moved by it and want to see some more now!”
